Although the intervention in Afghanistan has been a success
(so far), it is true that the Republicans are pulling a fast
one with tax givebacks to the wealthy. Paul Krugman in the
NYTimes has been reporting this in detail.

The most recent elections went in favor of the Democrats
(Virginia and New Jersey governorships). Even in NYC, Bloomberg 
the billionaire was a life-long Democrat before switching
parties this year so he could run as a Republican against
the Dem candidate.

That 9-11 occurred on Bush's watch is purely accidental.
If there had been a Dem president there probably would
have been a similar or identical Afghanistan intervention
(without the tax givebacks to the wealthy).
