Frances--If the Afghans aren't hitting any thing in the "shots," that's
probably because it's just posed news footage. There aren't too many Western
reporters behind the Taliban battle lines--and when US soldiers hit the
ground, you probably still won't see too much actual battle footage because
of censorship. Can they hit anything? Well, I've heard they can; they
certainly killed a lot of Russians, and they've had some great training from
the CIA! I'm betting the land battle will
see some serious US losses. Most obviously, the Afghans, despite their
vintage weapons, know the terrain. It was the same thing in Vietnam--there
it was jungle and that horrible East Asian rainy, hot, humid weather, here
it's mountain caves, searing desert heat and frigid mountain snowy
winters.Desert Storm was a cake-walk compared to this place!
