Believe we were partners in some of those boat ventures, good thing all
those Iraqis falling dead are only costing tax dollars and maybe our
future.

Do you recall that Jim Weiler came into a pile of money 15 years or so
ago and he bought this really nice big sail boat. It was on the Pacific
coast of Mexico and he had it berthed there. The boat slowly rotted
away and was taken over as a derilict by the harbor. It never sailed a
foot and he lived on it for a few months as best as I can recall. It
was a financial disaster.

Boats I have had were all that. I have owned a passel of sail boats and
a couple of bass boats. They are sort of like horses and dogs a lot of
trouble. Horses are costly and if you don't insure them they can be a
total loss. I lost a heap of dollars on two horses that just fell over
dead which is a thing that they do.

As for dogs they bite people and kill chidkens or at least the ones I
had of late did and they were very very stupid.

No pets is my adage. THat way you do not have to worry about what to do
when you go out of town for a month or a year.

FILETIME=[A0C88E20:01C58AE1]
>
>Clark,
>
>This
has a 10hp Yanmar diesel, right? Are you going to pull it and
>rebuild? Or maybe it doesn't need rebuilding.
>
>I
once dreamt of rebuilding a Suzuki 3 banger from a Metro from
>Artie Osborne to bolt to an engine stand in my living room, the
>engine stand yellow or red from Harbor Freight. It was to go
into my
>sailboat after i ripped out the centerboard. Then the
sailboat would
>be a power boat. Keep the manual transmission,
extend one of the CV
>struts for the drive shaft. Cooling and
exhaust would be
>unimaginable difficult but perhaps
doable.
>
>I hit up on Artie, took him to lunch, tried to
get him to part me
>out an engine from one or another of his
wrecked Chevy Metros which
>he and Doug Breeding
>bought
at auction (Tuesday every two weeks). He even took me out
>there
once and sneaked me into the auction which is not public, ya
>know. But he/they never came
>across on this project. I
couldnt make them like me
>so why would they
cooperate?
>
>The project is described in my shaggy dog
story at
>http://www.charlesumlauf.com/boat.htm
including
>technical details and a black and white picture
taken
>by subscriber Han Otto of the boat abuilding in my living
room circa
>1980.
>
>You will remember, Clark, that
I spoke with you about
>15 years ago regarding surplus Japanese
car engines which were sold
>in Houston at that
time.
>
>I am glad to hear that you got you a Watkins 27 in
your
>back yard.
>
>Mike
>
>-----
