[W126 Coupe] My 560SEL

Considering that the Valentine 1 can detect radar for over a mile, and
the fact that I've never seen a speed trap set up that was designed to
get speeders a mile away (I've never seen something that you couldn't
see with your eye easily if the trooper vehicle weren't
obscured...always wondered why NC kept the grass in the highway so ratty
and dead. Then I saw a state trooper. The NC state trooper cars are like
camo is dead grass and dirt), I think you'll be pretty safe with a
detector if you pay attention (lie for instant on, if you see it beep it
beeped, don't say well it isn't beeping any more, must have been a
mistake). As far as ticket size and ramifications, it depends on the
state, but for 100+ count on lots of points and a huge fine at the very
least. In some states you'll lose your license and in some you'll go to
jail (in almost all you will go to jail for enough over - it's double
the limit if the limit is 55+ in MD, I believe 30 over in VA - it's not
really jail, just a holding cell. Back in the 80's one of my uncles
ended up in one thanks to a 560SL). I should qualify my statements by
saying I don't own a detector (still getting some cash together), but
I've read a lot about them.
Richard

Thanks Bill and Richard.
I have not received a ticket and I generally don't go over 80 in the
commute which seems to be the average speed for everyone. I have on
occasion let her rip in the SEC on 95 North between Providence and 128
South of Boston.
Wonder how big the ticket would be or if there are any other
ramifications if tagged at 100+ and if any detector would give you
adequate notice at this speed???. Whatdayathink??
Dick
