On a related note, when the cruise control dies, how do you know which
part is bad?

Yup...Any V8 126 ought to be Fine..!  Not sure on the 6's..I'd have to
pick through my EPC>  ..Oh, a car w/ ASR will have a different module,
but I Doubt you'll find one at the breakers as such..
