What I meant by high mileage is not extended change interval synthetics
but those oils (started with valvoline max life, then everybody joined
in) that say they are for cars with more than 75,000 miles.

I drive a 87 -560, with 253 K, this year I started using Silkolene 0w-20
and 15w 50 in combo, the car just passed NJ emissions insp.I don't leak
motor oil. The engine is using half a quart to the tank full. The valves
are on the verge of being done. Last year I used 5w-50 Castrol full sync
with some Marvel Mystery oil additive and before that Pinto 0w-40syn, it
was night and day difference in engine smoothness. I also run the car in
comp., mostly autocross, mechanics advise changing timing chain, I never
did, they also suggested head gasket, because of 'sweat' on the back of
the no. 8 cylinder never did. I have had to change valve cover gaskets
almost every 30k, they leak like sieves, the trans leaks but not the
bottom end of the engine. A couple of years ago I checked the
compression and leak down in the cylinders, they were reasonable and
good,respectively.I like 0w-50 synthetic, I love Silkoline.
