[W126 Coupe] Engine oil

Well,

We had a '99 BMW 740i in the shop for a smoking problem.Usually, this problem is caused by a diaphragm on the back of the intake that often fails, and allows the engine to suck in oil from the crankcase breather. In this case, it didn't cure the problem. To make a long story short, we found the engine full of sludge, the oil seperator canister behind the timing cover was stopped up, and oil couldn't drain back into the oil pan. So it was backing up into the crankcase breather tube, and draining into the intake manifold, and causing the car to smoke. They have used Mobil One since new, at 10,000 mile change intervals. The car has 82,000 miles. We cleaned out the motor, and replaced the seperator canister, and recommended 3,000 mile change intervals. I have always used Castrol GTX at 3,000 mile change intervals in all of my own cars, and have NEVER, in 27 years of driving, and 54 vehicles I have owned, had an oil related problem.
