[W126 Coupe] painted grille

Yeah, I have the same problem.  I'd be really interested in finding out how
to strip the chrome off the plastic.

Has anyone stripped the SEC grille of its chrome and painted it semi-gloss
black? The chrome trim in the center of my 89 SEC grille has started to peel
off. I have located new grilles, but they are all $500+. My grille is in
good shape otherwise. 

I have seen it on some of the "tuner" SECs, like AMG and the like, but those
are usually body color. My SEC is a sort of teal color and I don't think the
grille would look right body color, so I was thinking semi-gloss black. 

What do you guys think?
